Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence on her second nomination and the difference from two years ago when she was nominated for Winters Bone. Jennifer also reveals that Silver Linings Playbook was filmed over 33 days.
OSCARS night is as much about fashion as it is about acting.
Which is not great news for Jennifer Lawrence, who isn’t exactly a clothes horse and revealed she used to “almost faint out of boredom” when she had to shop.
This awards season she’s already had a wardrobe malfunction – flashing some thigh at the Screen Actors Guild Awards while climbing some stairs in a layered Dior dress.
So you can imagine her stress at working the red carpet a week on Sunday at the Oscars in front of a televised audience of one billion people around the world.
Jennifer, 22, from Kentucky, won’t say what dress she will wear for the glitzy ceremony on February 24, but we are betting it will be Dior. She wore a stunning crystal-embellished Dior dress at the Baftas last Sunday.
And no wonder she sticks with them. Dior changed her views on fashion.
The Hunger Games actress said: “I love Dior fashion. I can’t remember what I am supposed to do, or not do, in fashion, but Dior made me love fashion.
“I have hated shopping my entire life. My mom used to drive me to TJ Maxx (the American name for TK Maxx) and I would almost faint out of boredom.
“And I have always hated shopping. So I would just get gifted clothes that I didn’t really like, but they were free so then I didn’t have to go shopping. I would spend years just wearing clothes that I didn’t really like.
“But I bit the bullet last week and went shopping, and really enjoyed it. Then I went to a fitting. I am really getting there, and now I am kind of starting to like clothes.”
Jennifer was only a teenager when she became a professional actress, but Winter’s Bone in 2010 saw her nominated for an Oscar in the best actress category. Although she didn’t win, she received lots of praise from the fashion critics with her red Calvin Klein dress.
Her latest film, Silver Linings Playbook, in which she plays a recovering sex addict, has given her a second Oscar nomination – making her the youngest person ever to be nominated for two Academy Awards for best actress.
She’s already having a very successful awards season with wins at the Golden Globes, the People’s Choice Awards, Sag and Critics’ Choice Awards.
The Sag Awards moment wasn’t a wardrobe malfunction according to her and Dior, but was a tiered dress. She won’t make the same mistake again. And when asked how she looks good in clothes, she laughs: “Experiencing stress”.
